My name
Hi! I’m Blessy Wen. If you’re asking why I’m taking Wen as a surname in most of my accounts, it’s from my Chinese name “文心怡.”
心 (pinyin: xīn) means “heart, mind, soul,” 怡 (pinyin: yí) means “joy, harmony,” and the surname 文 (pinyin: wén) means “literary, refined” or “study, writing.”
Xīnyí, put together, means “joyful heart.”
How I came up with my Chinese name is another (long) story. Moreover, it’s checked and fully approved by my Taiwanese friends.
The name “Blessy” is derived from my third given name, “Bless,” and is a monicker given by my grandmom (my father’s mom). I’ve been using it as a signature for my pieces since High School.
I felt like Wén, with its “literary” translation, is the best word that I’d love to attach to my signature name, “Blessy.” So, that’s why I came up with Blessy Wen (without the pinyin).
Interests
I’m a Potterhead under the house of Slytherin and a big fan of Luna Lovegood — who’s also an INFP, literary, diplomat, and visionary. She mirrors me in many ways, such as her affinity for magical creatures, which in my case is love and respect for animals.
On a more “muggle” note, I’m a Swiftie! I’ve been a fan of Taylor Swift since her early years in the industry. The first TS song I’ve listened to is “Teardrops On My Guitar.” Oh, and she’s also born on December 13! We’re both archers! *cue on TS7 Track 5*
As for animated films, I’m a die-hard Studio Ghibli fan.
I’ve watched all of the Ghibli movies. My favorite character is the imaginative and insightful lead of Whisper of the Heart, Shizuku Tsukishima. I relate to her on another level—the book nerdiness, the crazy ideas, the writer struggles, the impulsiveness, the career-pathway crisis, the love for writing, and more—that I sometimes think this movie’s made for me (P.S. there’s no harm in dreaming 😆). Did I forget to mention that she’s a textbook INFP?
Another thing about me is that I love to travel, but only to certain places. I have a preference for countries I’ve imagined visiting during childhood, particularly those with thick snow and Christmas decors in December.
Seeing the lights and the Christmas tree, hearing bells and classic Christmas songs, smelling the pine cones and cinnamon, feeling the warmth of the mug of hot choco between my palms in mittens and the wood fire under the chimney, and knowing everybody’s kind and cheerful celebrating that time of the year has always been such a dreamy imagination to me since I was little. I’m always excited about Christmas and the overwhelming feelings I get during the holidays.
The blog
I’ve had pretty bad experiences using social media platforms to the point where they’ve contributed to deteriorating my mental health. I’ve had like four Facebook accounts, three on Instagram, three Twitter accounts, and many for others not mentioned as well.
After a lot of messy things that had happened in my life, I decided to create this one so I could give my thoughts a safer haven, instead of venting them out to social media where literally everyone unwillingly sees and could freely judge parts of who you are as a person.
Basically, this blog is meant to assist me in my self-healing journey.
Though this blog isn’t public (as I don’t mention this in my current socmeds), it’s not necessarily private as well since it can be looked up on the internet. So, if you’re one of those who unintentionally stumbled upon this blog, took a peep, and decided to join the ride, nice to meet you!
I hope you find motivating and inspiring pieces here. Feel free to introduce yourself in the comments below my posts. I’d love to hear your thoughts too!
She’s More Than Meets The Eye
Why “She’s more than meets the eye?”
I’m a firm believer that there’s good and bad in each of us, and it’s up to us which side we want to be defined by. For me, I choose good and will keep seeing the good in everyone. So, no matter how people see you, remember that you are worth more than you could ever imagine, even if you have a different sparkle. Stay unique. There’s more to you than meets the eye. ❤️
